I only got a 73%, but I forced myself to get it over with...I used Bert & Kathy's book from Osborne (not the new Head First one), and I think I put in about four or five 6-hour days, and maybe another few hours on another couple of days. In the process, I discovered a top-notch, user-friendly free IDE that I like better than any of the others I tried: Dr. Java
I did MUCH better on stuff related to OOP and Collections than on Language Fundamentals and such. Ugh. I don't entirely approve of this test, and I hope the Web Components one forces me to learn info that I consider more appropriate/important.
I was alone in the testing room, and I talked to myself out loud with most of the questions to try to stay focused and avoid getting nervous. I didn't turn to the computer behind me that had IE on the desktop b/c they had a camera trained on me. Well, I wouldn't have anyway--honest!
Good luck, everyone!

Congratulations Stephen! I have sat in about 8 exams and gotten 3 certifications. The final exam of a series of three (to get the certific), I failed 3 times! I'm sure none of these exams can compare in terms of the level of difficulty with SCJP. You're right when it comes to studying, sometimes I got tired and impatient and just said to myself, just do it!
I heard this somewhere, "it isn't what you know, but when you know it" that matters.
