Very special thanks to
  • Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra for allowing me to be a tester of the questions (I averaged 68% in them)
  • Whizlabs software for allowing me to review their SCBCD software (I averaged 73%).

  • No thanks to the people in the SCJD forum who distracted me from my studies on too many occassions
My main study was done straight out of the EJB Specification, with experiments done in the Sun reference implementation following examples in Building Java Enterprise Systems with J2EE and Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans PDF book.

    Thanks everyone,
I was studying for SCEA before, then took a break for SCBCD. So I will be going back to the SCEA now.
    Regards, Andrew

    Andrew -
    Congrats!
    Thanks for all your help!
I know this is hard to judge, but how do you think you would have scored on our mocks if they were NOT 'choose all that apply' ? (We know that makes 'em harder)

    Hi Bert,
I know this is hard to judge, but how do you think you would have scored on our mocks if they were NOT 'choose all that apply' ? (We know that makes 'em harder)

I'll try and make a guestimate.
When I wrote down my answers, if there was an answer that I thought might be correct but I wasn't willing to commit 100% to it, I wrote the answer as:

Where I knew d was correct, but I wasn't 100% sure on b. If your question had read "pick two" then I would have chosen both, but if your question has read "pick one" then I would have chosen only d.
As it turns out, the answer for 9.4 was "b, d", so I counted that in my 68%.
However in the cases where I had something in brackets that was wrong, then I didn't count it in my 68%.
Going back and recounting, adding these in, then my score goes up to 77%.
There are a couple more that I might have got by pure luck where I was happy with say 2 answers with nothing in brackets, and if the question had read "pick 3" then I would have been forced to pick another one. But I don't think I should count these sorts of answers.
    Regards, Andrew

    Hi Billy,
It was well under a month elapsed time between when I started to study for it and when I sat the exam, but it is difficult to give an exact amount of time spent studying, as I was in the middle of a lot of other things (not just moderating SCJD forum).
    Regards, Andrew

    Hi Billy,
This was supposed to have been fixed by now. Oh well...
Give Sun Education Australia a call. They will take your order over the phone, and send you the voucher number in an email (for me it was same day).
Here's the contact at Sun that I talk to:

    Good luck with it.
    Regards, Andrew

    Hi Joe,
Well I got 78% for SCBCD.
Then when I did SCEA part 1 yesterday (overall 87%) I got:

At least I am consistent
I think it was valuable doing the SCBCD before the SCEA. The SCEA uses version 1.1 of the EJB specification, whereas SCBCD uses version 2, however SCEA is all about concepts, so this difference should not cause any problems.
Doing SCBCD first means that there are two subsections of SCEA requirements that you have already learnt.
    Regards, Andrew
