I took the exam on Saturday in Burlington, MA, it was reasonable for
the cost of the exam. I used the Deshmukh & Malavia book as a framework
for preparation. It's a good idea to build a small trial app using
Tomcat as you progress through the chapters. In my case, I used my trial
installation of DB/2 V8.1 that I had on hand for preparation of the DB/2
exam. Preparing for the SCWCD allowed me to review use of JDBC as well.
This was a difficult exam to study for because of the taedium in memorizing
API and deployment descriptor syntax that would otherwise best be looked
up in reference on demand. I actually had to stop studying for awhile because I got frustrated thinking that I was being quized more on my ability
to memorize trivia than understanding how to properly compose the use of
functionality and interface limitations to solve real problems...
I only took this exam to authenticate prior work on my resume with JSP
and Servlets.
Next on my list:
* Moving back to the Boston area by 1/1/04
* Looking for contracting or full-time work
* Doing the SCJD and IBM 486 exam in parallel on my bench time.

Hai Jim,
Congrats on your score. Actually I have finished my SCJP last week and thinking of SCWCD. But I am very poor in memorizing. After reading your post I am skeptical about whether I would be able to do it. I have a little knowledge in servlets (though I don't remember anything now). Do u think I should go for it or I should choose something else.
Your input might help me decide on what to do next.
Thanks.

Kalai: You might take on the SCJD next since it is more fun. I only
did the SCWCD because I had worked with JSP in the past and wanted
authentication on my resume that I indeed know what I am doing.
