Hi All,
I passed SCJP today with a 96%. I missed two questions on
1. Flow Control, Assertion, and Exception Handling and
2. Fundamental Class in the java.lang package
How I studied
-------------
a. I used the K&B and Kalid's certification books.
b. Solved as many mock exams as I could lay my hands on.
(Dans's, Marcus Green, John Hunt, Javacertificate, javaprepare......)
c. Wrote lots of code to clear my concepts
d. Regularly visited javaranch.
Tips
----
a. Threads questions were TOUGH. So study threads very very very well.
b. Know overriding/overloading concepts backwards
c. On the day before the exam go over exam watch and 2 min. drill in the K&B book. This really helped me.
d. Make flash cards while studying.
e. DO NOT miss Dan's mock and the K&B book..they are invaluable.
Thanks Kathy and Berts for the AMAZING book. Thanks Dan, Marcus and javacertificate for your helpful mock exams.
Thanks Marlene, Harwinder, Vad, Thomas, Jessica and everyone else on javaranch for answering my questions.... I love your site. You guys are doing a great job. Studying for this exam has been a great experience thanks to you all.

Wow Cathy, what a score!!!

I guess we missed the same question on Exception handling, it was a bit amiguously worded.
My congrats, you've done a terrific job!
Are you planning on doing SCWCD?

Cathy, I can't call myself a complete newbie to the web stuff, though I need more hands-on experience with Java web. I'm currently preparing for SCWCD. There's tons of rumours about it being updated next spring, but I figured "what's the heck" and went ahead.
So far it's been exciting for me - applying well acquired SCJP knowledge towards more real web applications. I bought "Murach's JSP and Servlets" (for beginners ) and keep finding booboos in there. One reason being is the book uses older Tomcat, and I'm up to date with the latest, and I in general like the process of detecting errors.
I'm planning to spend as much time as needed to get prepared, no rush. The ultimate goal is ultimate knowledge.
The exam objectives are pretty exciting too.

Hey Cathy
Awesome score !!! Congratulations
You really deserve this good score. I saw how you were working on the mocks left and right in the past few days from the questions you were posting. Your questions have really helped me prepare for the exam. I always read your questions very carefully.
I've been going through some turmoil in my work life and haven't been able to concentrate on the exam at all. Today I logged in just to check your score because I knew your exam date (25th) .. and I'm really glad (but not surprised) to see your score.
All the best to you for the future. Hope you'll be around to help me and others ...
Cheers
Harwinder
