Thanks to the javaranch community. This is my first posting; but I have been using the Search function here extensively for the last few months. I learned a lot -- thanks.
Thanks also to Kathy and Bert: most of my score was covered clearly by material in their excellent book.
For what it's worth, my preparation was as follows:
December: learning the basics using the sun.com tutorials (I am a long-time developer but am pretty new to Java)
January: studying Kathy and Bert's book, coding examples
February: mock exams, coding more examples
In total, my preparation time was about 110 hours. In retrospect, I was over-prepared: just studying K&B's book would have been more than adequate to pass the exam.
Thanks,
Mel Edwards

I wonder Mel how did the Java exam compare to the Microsoft ones you have done previously in difficulty?

Congrats, Mel.
Nikki,
Questions will range from all the objectives. May be 1,2 more from some objectives. But that may be different for every other person.
If you have completed the K&B book and are comnfartable with it, then the toughest quetions would be from the first 3 chapters. At least thats how i felt. If we understand the OOPS, Thread, Garbage collection concepts from K&B, then that covers all those related questions more or less.
But from the first few chapters, which are fundamental, delcaration, arrays etc...weird combinations of questions will come. At least thats what it was with me. I missed 4 questions and the 3 of them were from the first 3 chapters!
Good Luck with your exam
