Hi All

I passed SJCP 1.4 last Friday. I scored 85%.

i would like to thank

Dan Chisolms , Marcus Greens' and of course JavaRanch

K&B was my Bible all the time.

Dan ur topic based classification really help me understand most of the concepts, Thanks for the efforts, I owe u a dinner

Marcus ur exams helped me gain the confidence for the exam, in fact I gave one of ur exams the day b4 the exam and scored 86%.

I got to know abt Dan and Marcus and all the mock exams and material thru JavaRanch, my special thanks to them,

One piece of advice for anyone planning to take the exam, If you want to score HIGH plz be a little patient at the end, I was scoring around 70% initially and i raised it to 80-85% and saw I was gradually improving my score but I got a little impatient at the end and did not wait to increase my scores a little further, now I feel 90-95% was not impossible .

Anyways I am planning to party a little and get back to business

regards
Hari

hi nicholas and all of you in javaranch..

is the scjp hard to get?
i am planning to take another cert(i just bought headfirstejb today ) instead of taking scjp.
i need a book that can guide me to pass scjd other than scjd book by kathy and bert, but if that book is enought to guide me to pass scjd then i will not spend for other books.
how about the book from habibi, mehran, is it good?

advice please?

It depends. Personally, I feel it is not difficult, and it is quite easy to pass (as the passing score is 52% only )

I feel SCJP 1.2 even more difficult than SCJP 1.4, as the former one include GUI topics which I am not very familiar with.

I dont think it is possible if you wanna get the SCBCD certificate. It is becos SCJP is the *enterance* of ALL SUN's exams (except SCEA).

If you dont get SCJP, even you pass other SUN's exams, you will NOT receive the cert, as SCJP is required.

Max's book, SCJD with J2SE 1.4, is the only book you required to pass SCJD. You only need this book to pass the exam.

Hi Nicholas..

i got the scjp cert on 30 june'04.

sorry if there was a typo in my prev post.
what i am asking is : is scjd(developer) hard to pass.

i am still confuse which cert i have to take now, scjd or scbcd?

i bought head first ejb today, and just make a quick read and found that it is a bit hard for me where i don't have any experience on it. probably i need 3 months for preparation scbcd.

In my thingkin now is that scjd is a bit easy than scbcd, am i wrong?

which one is better to take Nick?
if you suggest for scjd then i will ask for refund/change the book

Difficult or not is really depends. I feel the most challenging part is the *magic score* for Locking. Up till now, no one knows why some people can score prefect, while so got 44/80, while the 2 designs are quite similar.

Basically, if you have some Java experiences, you wont find difficulty to pass this exam. But, you may need some more time to plan, and write the programs.

For SCJD, it took me 1.5 month to complete it, including design, coding, testing, writing documents, and finally, upload it and took the essay exam. I started my work on 17 Nov 2003, and took the exam on 30 Dec 2003. Thus, you are expected to put much time on it.

For SCBCD, the only thing I used is HF EJB, I read it twice, and took some mock exams from EJB+ and INESystems. I used around 3 weeks to master it.

Thus, it depends on how many times you have, in order to complete the exams. If you wanna get it in a short time, SCBCD is a cool choice, otherwise, you may consider SCJD.

If you never try any EJB before, it maybe difficult to understand the concepts. And, in fact, Kathy and Bert tried to make their book easy to read, I do believe you will gain a lot after completing SCBCD.

There are, in fact, no easy or difficult, as SCJD focus on coding, while SCBCD focus on concepts. They are apples and oranges.

But for me, I would try SCBCD, as if I dont have experiences on EJB, I do hope I can gain more experiences in that area.

You have no need to change it, as you will definitely use it when you come across with SCBCD.
