I just cleared SCJP with 93%. WOW the feeling is soooo good!!
Thanks to this forum especially the Certification Results forum where i got most of my inspiration from!!
When i started preparing 80-85% was what i thought i could manage! But after coming to the result forum and seeing every other post with 90+ score I thought i should aim for a better score.
I studied from 2 books: Khalid Mughal and K&B. And ofcourse the King of Mock Exams - Dan's exams (they simply can't be left out!!)
Khalid Mughal is a little difficult to comprehend in the first pass although the material is quite exaustive. If you don't just want to stick to the certification objectives and want to know things in a little more detail this is the book.
K&B focuses narrowly on the exam objectives. Its exam watch and questions are very helpfull. The pattern of questions on the actual exam was very simmillar to the questions in this book.
And finally Dan's exam - They are extremely helpful in understanding the concepts you learn from books while preparing. The tests should not be taken to judje your score but as a learning tool.
Now i am proud SCJP

Thanks Ankur! By the way are you my classmate from Symbi or some one else??

Thanks Swati and All the Best! I have been following your posts and you seem to be working hard!! Wish you lotsa luck!

Hi Rafi, K&B is Kathey Sierra and Bert Bates book on SCJP 1.4 I believe they are involved in preparing questions for the real exam too. The book is quite good. But Khalid Mughal has its own mertis.

Hi Giju..I want to go for SCWCD but you know what I have zero professional experience in Java. I programmed in college that was all. I am working in PHP right now..I am looking for a job in Java. Will get some experience and then head for SCWCD.

Hey Smriti,

Congrats on such a good score. Remember me ( ), the same guy who told you that you would get a good score(bec I dream't it ). Hey by the way I got the same score (93%, I know you would say the same ). It seems your life is a bit similar to mine. I am also currently working on PHP and web stuff and also will be looking for a job in "Java World" and I am also thinking of moving to SCWCD( bec of my experience working with web related stuff).

Anyhow Congrats and good luck.

Smriti & All,

I've been studying for my SCJP for about three weeks now. I read, and took all of the practice exams in the Sybex certification guide. I take the exam on Friday morning.

In the last week I've been taking all of Dan's exams, and I'm learning a lot, but my scores are very low compared to other practice exams I've taken. Have other people experienced this? Why are real-exam scores like compared to Dan's exam scores?

- Nervous!

Hi Kevin!!
All the best...What are you scoring on Dan's exams and other exams? If you scoring like 70% on Dan's exam you are doing very well! Try taking Marcus Green's SCJP 1.4 new sample exam. People say its very close to the real thing. And please treat Dan's exam as learning tool.
