I'm currently preparing for the SCJP and I noticed the pass mark is the lowest of all certifications.

Is it the SCJP the hardest certification exam for Java technologies?

Thanks,
Andrei

I don't think so... SCJD, of course, is harder than SCJP... But for other specialized certs, it depends on individual's experience on the tech that the cert is based on...

Notice that SCJP is an entry level certification to all other certs... If we are strong enough in Java Fundamental Skill, it won't be that difficult...

Just my 2 cents...

I'm not talking about the developer exams. I'm talking about the ones that comprise several tests.

I agree with you that if you know the fundamentals, then the J2EE exams will be much easier to take.

But what I find strange is the low pass mark (52 %).

Andrei, the passing mark of the current SCJP exam is lower than that of the previous version of SCJP exam, which is 61%... You may conceive that the current SCJP exam is more difficult... But it's not the point... Since the current SCJP exam does not include AWT and I/O topics of the previous SCJP exam, there are less topic in the current SCJP exam and there are more detailed questions in each topic in the current SCJP exam...

Hope it helps...

P.S., your display name is against the naming policy of JavaRanch... You can have a look at the policy here.

In fact, I expect that SCJP Tiger will be much more difficult, as said by Kathy.

So, may be it will have a much lower passing rate, say 50%.

The passing percentages are mostly determined based on the results of the beta exam which occurs before a new exam is released to the public. So you could fairly say that the SCJP is the toughest of the Sun exams... however...

The current SCJP exam got revised and revised over the years, and it's objectives didn't change that much, so the end result was that it got to be a really "tricky" test, as opposed to just a good "hard" test. I personally think that it's not the hardest Sun cert., but that it's probably the trickiest.

The new exam (probably released in the Spring of 2005 ?), will be a lot less tricky, but hopefully will return to being good, old-fashioned, hard

Start studying up on your Tiger stuff!
