First, I'm not a java programmer. I spend my days in Gensym G2, C++, Oracle, and a few other technologies.

My friend and co-worker was tasked to write the test, and I volunteered to do the same, so it was added to my checklist of things to accomplish this year. Java has an increasing foothold in our company, so it's a good idea to prepare for the future.

I put it off until the last possible moment, of course. When a goal is a year away it's so easy to let time slip by. Spent the last three weeks studying for it (when I could), basically starting from scratch.

With only three weeks and a copy of the Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide by Kathy Sierra, I was able to come up with a 78% on Friday.

This book was exactly what I needed. Kudos to Kathy.

Thank you.

It's been a number of years since I wrote any kind of certification exam (and this is the first one for programming), so I was sweating somewhat.

Particularly when the first 10 questions came up threads, and I discovered I knew less about them than I thought I did!

Now I get to do the exam I REALLY wanted to do. Day after I wrote the test I registered for the SCJD project.

I got the Bodgitt and Scarper project.

I also ordered the book everybody seems to recommend.

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
