Hi All,

This is Pavan Kumar.P

Iam a serious aspirant of SCJP. Somehow came to know Javaranch is extremely good for all SCJP exam takers with good forums and helpful members.

I wanna know the best books for preparing the exam. Hoping for the early replies and valuable suggestions from all the friends who completed SCJP certification.

Thanx in Advance.

Hi Pavan,

That's a matter of taste. I really like the "Java 2 Certification Study Guide" which now has its fifth edition, covering the 5.0 exam.

I've also read "Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027)", which is also referred to as K&B or Kathy & Bert on this forum. The book is funny, which makes for good reading, claims to tell it all, but in my view it really doesn't!

Thirdly, keep the API documentation close by... a lot of questions cover topics which have to do with methods on String, Thread, wrapper classes, etc, that aren't described in the certification books. Or, which is even better, you simply have to have a lot of experience already with Java.

If you're going to study for the (5.0) exam it's always handy to keep the "Java Language Specification, (third edition) (PDF)" close by. (The third edition covers the 5.0 version of the language). It also contains many examples, but discusses them very in-depth, so might be a bit overkill. I found it very useful, because, in the end, what's in the language specification should be true

Bottom line is you have to have multiple certification books (at least 2), do mock exams on the web, look at the API documentation and language specification to be fully prepared.

Good luck!
