I know many people have posted on the forums that they were able to finish the exam in just one hour or so. Well I can't say that. It took me 1 hour and 40 mins to finish it.

I kept solving the easy and obvious questions first. The hard ones like threading questions, I kept marking (kept them as incomplete). If the code was more than 10 lines, I would mark it to come back and finish it. I wanted to get a feel for the difficulty for the whole exam and so I wanted to see every question before I solved the tough ones. I revisited the incomplete and other marked questions.

It is true that they try to confuse you quite a bit in the exam. But I took my time to drill in the nuances and principles over an extended period of study.

I studied from the Mughal book and then studied from the K&B book. In retrospect I don't think the Mughal book is necessary. K&B is a great book and one should learn atleast the stuff in the 2 minute drill sections.

After going through K&B, I went and did a lot of practice questions. Dan Chisholm's site has excellent questions and they are tough so that helps one train for a good score in SCJP. (http://danchisholm.net/july21/comprehensive/index.html) Based on my scores in Dan's tests, I would note the topics that I am weak in and review them.

That's the secret of my success.

Couple of my co-workers who studied with me passed with 86% and 90% scores.

Good luck to all of you future SCJPs
