Hi friends,

I have cleared SCJP1.4 on 16-Aug-2005 with 91%(56 correct answers). Even three days back i was unable to qualify the K&B exam. I took these exams 4-5 times and every time i failed.

And the real thrill began today when it started raining on my way to examination center and there were some initial problems in getting myself registerd with prometric. So my test started 30 minutes later than the scheduled time. The exam presented me with several nerve freezing questions on thread in series right from the very beginning

But it ends well and i am happy now. Very very thanks for showing me the right way and helping me by getting my doubts cleared. All the best to future Java certification aspirants. Any query, advice regrading SCJP1.4 is welcome.

Thanks friends for your motivation and appreciation.

reply to Santana's query :

Following exams completely follow the objectives of SCJP1.4 and my favorites for SCJP1.4 preparation:
1. Khalid Mughal mock exam(59 questions) (its tough than the real exam ).
2. K&B mock exams ( 3 exams ). These were very near to real exams in difficulty level.
3. Dan Chisholm exams , these exams provide an excellent set of mock exams dedicated to each topic with detailed solution.
4. Further try to get hold on all the basic questions(144) in Rules roundup game.
5. Took free mock exams at http://www.javacertificate.com/

Note:
1,3,4 are available at url http://www.javaranch.com/mock.jsp .

for 2 you have to buy the book Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide By Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. You can also take other mock exams available at Java Ranch (but only if the time permits you). But these exams don't completely simultae the real exam in objcetives, no. of questions and duration of exam.

Just be specific to details and API's mentioned in K&B and SCJP1.4 objectives as it helps to manage your valuable time in most efficient manner. Just decide what is needed and what's not for the exam.

K&B in above reply means book written by the authors KATHY & BATES.

Ask if still anybody (who wants to take SCJP1.4 exam) has doubt or queries.

No, i didn't take JQ Plus mock exam. But if you find all the tests challanging and that engage you in continuous thinking process after taking first3-4 tests, then the tests are good. The tests should not give you chance to relax and pick the option.

If you find rest of tests easy and questions follow some earlier pattern then the test series does not solve its purpose.

Thanks Naveen. Here are answers to your queries

1. duration of exam is 2 hours.
2. Exam fees is 150$. In Indian rs. the fees is nearly Rs.6600.
3. No. of questions is 61 of which you have to give 32 correct answers to qualify the exam.

Sorry, i can't help you in selecting some suitable exam center near your location as i appeared from Delhi(NIIT, preet vihar) center. But you can use the url http://securereg3.prometric.com/ to locate a test center near you.

Hope i have answered your questions. All the best for your exam.

Bye,
Lalit

Sorry friends for the delay in reply.

Hi naraharirao mocherla, Don't worry much for the hashCode() method and collections. In collections you only do need to know the purpose of various collection interfaces, difference between their implementing classes like arraylist and vector implement the additional RandomAccess interface which means they can be accessed randomly. Just cram the access order, insertion/deletion order and the performance issue between implementing classes of same interface i.e. which one inserts faster, which one accesses elements faster and why ? , and in hashtable based implemention in Sets and Maps try to memeorise the default initialcapacity and loadfactor with different constructors.

I got one question wherein i need to type in the output of some string operation mentioned int he program and rest were objective type.

In hashcode just remember the general contract(3 points) of hashcode method and then solve a number of questions on this topic until all your doubts are erased out. Continue posting your doubts so that me or someone knowing the answer and reason can help you.

All the best for your preparation and exam.

Congrats Shivakanth Thyagarajan for clearing the exam. Yes, you would get the certificate and a lapel pin after 1 month ( if you are from INDIA). If you had cleared the exam 4 working days before today i.e. 25 Aug.2005, then as a pre-requisite i would like you to create a web login at url https://i7lp.integral7.com/durango/do/login?ownername=sun&channel=sun&basechannel=prometric
. It might give you troubles like me, so just send a mail to SunCert@thomson.com and wait for two working days to get a favorable reply. I was succesful in creatng a web login today. Just confirm your mailing address at this url and set your certification mailed to you in progress. Additionaly, you can check your certification details and status at url
http://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment/assignment.html . It has a different purpose then the earlier one. The certification kit mailed to you will include a Sun Logo Agreement. Please sign the agreement and mail it back to the address supplied. Depending from which country you mail the agreement, it may take up to month for you to receive the logo. For US and Canada only, candidates can request their logo online.

Note: to enter any of these url's you should have your test details with you if you are entering for the very first time.

Thanks Ashok for the appreciation and respect. Keep it up for we have lot of things to learn from others and that we can do only when we are humble.

Yes, most probably i am looking for SCWCD but might be SCBCD as well. Depends on my learning curve with my current project.

I think that K&B is better though i purchased and did first thorough reading from Khalid Mughal. K&B is better because it gives you enough knowledge to score well in the exam thus reducing things to be crammed and preservedf in your brain as well as for doing a time critical preparation. You can refer to khalid mughal, if you have spare time for tougher challenges than the real exam or later on after qualifying the exam to gain vast indepth knowledge (overflowing scjp1.4 objectives) if there is time constraint.

Still if you have any questions, do send me and i would be happy to help you.

Bye and all the Best,
Lalit

Hi Lalit
I am unable to get into this site where i had to create web login. Would you please once again send me the site address. I had taken the exam on 23rd, should it create any problem for me if haven't registered. I visited the other site and found my result. Should i mail them directly asking for the creation. Expecting an early reply

Thanks

Thanks Deepali. Yes, surely the multiple choice questions would tell you the number of options to be selected within brackets after the end of question but before options. Else your answers would be considered incomplete and you would be given chance to complete them before final submission if there is time left. Additionally you can mark the questions for review where you have doubts, or you know partial or incomplete answer or where some question is taking too much time and hurdling the flow. All the best for your exam.

Hi Shivakanth Thyagarajan, pls. do re-read my earlier reply addressed to you on this page. You should try to create web login on monday i.e. 29-Aug-2005 since it takes at least 4 working days after the exam date to update the database.

Bye,
Lalit
