Passed my SCJP 5.0 Here in Toronto

Today...

I have checked out this forum now and then

The test, test basic knowledge if you are good at fundamentals and know required API in outline, you should score very well.

You should know the fundamentals very well, has there are many subtle question there, meant to confuse you.

All in all, it was an ok Test. I made a couple of mistakes in generics, oo concepts and flow control sections.

I used the whizlabs 5.0 simulator to practice taking the test and any good
book on java will do. I used Just Java 2 SIXTH EDITION, plus the API Documentation

If you just read to the test you won't learn much, try and read other sources like java articles to get a more in depth understanding, on what the java compiler and JVM is actually doing and why things are the way they are.

Like type erasure in generics and stuff.

But the test does not go into advanced topics. I think I over prepared and read extraneous material.

I just finished a degree program and just thought I might just try and get certified used about 3 weeks preparation and I have no previous work experience in java, but I do know C++ to an intermediate level.

Any competent programmer should be scoring 90+ with 2 or 3 weeks of preparation.

Does this make the others incompetent ?

bentusison,
Any competent person should be aware of the naming policy of the forum

Please don't take offence, I should have expressed myself better, what I meant was that the test, test general java programming language awareness
and some intricate details particular to java. But general programming skills can take a while to acquire if you are new to it.

I hope now that my name, follows the naming policy in effect.

Thanks

Thanks for the addition, I understand what you mean
I believe that the result at this exam does not reflect the competence of a programmer. But some employers might do.

By the way, 70/73, great score
