Two things that make this doubly impressive:

- I've been doing general application dev, not 100% struts, and it was clear that many shops were dismissing me as so clueless that I didn't know how clueless I was. I thought I probably knew more than the 100% code monkey who works in a little assigned box. But how to prove it?... and what if they were right? I knew that was a legitimate question since I've been on the other side of that table.

I had to learn a modest amount of new material, but I think the biggest thing I got was much better insight into how things interplay at the real-world business layer. That came from the "Heads First" book notes, not the SCWCD material itself.

- I studied the Manning book I had picked up a while back and had the material nailed... then on the Friday before the Monday test I realized that my book covered -080 and the exam was -081. I check for the differences online... EEEK! It was a very intense weekend. As above I was familiar with most of the new material, used much of it (esp. EL), but I needed to hone other skills. "SimpleTag", for instance.

Two beefs with the "Heads First" books:

- filter dispatchers are mentioned in one chapter mock exam, but AFAIK they aren't mentioned anywhere else in the book. I know they might appear on the exam. That shook my confidence a bit -- I know the book doesn't try to cover 100% of the exam material, but anything mentioned in the mock exams should be discussed, however briefly, in the appropriate chapter.

- the final mock exam should have better pointers to the pages where the material was covered. Telling me I missed something covered in pages "1-187" doesn't help me.

Oops -- I returned to the wrong browser tag after registering. Obviously I was referring to the SCWCD exam.

But watch for me here next week!
