It took me a little over a week to read the Sierra & Bates SCJP book. I didn't quite leave myself with enough time to take the mock exam on the book's CD (I decided being well-rested was more important) but that's ok.

I passed with 80% and I'm happy. I learned a lot about the intricacies of Java 5 from the book. The folks that write the exam questions are pure evil - they are tricksters!

Off to upgrade my SCWCD with my handy, dandy Head First Servlets & JSPs book... eeeeh, maybe after a few beers.

Nope. The only questions I practiced on were the ones at the end of each chapter in the book. Granted, I passed the SCJP back in 2001, I've had some good experience since then, and I wasn't shooting for 100%. I never would have dared skip mock exams if I wasn't simply upgrading to Java 5.

Hi,
I am new to the Java Ranch, working as a Java/J2EE developer in Omaha. I recently took my SCJP 1.4 Certification with Kathy and Bert's Book for SCJP 1.4. I passed with a 95%. I am thinking of upgrading to Java 1.5, and I have bought the K & B book again for SCJP 1.5. But I am planning to take only the upgrade Exam. How do I efficently use Kathy and Bert's book for 1.5 to tackle the Upgrade Exam. The book is for the full SCJP 1.5 Exam. Whats the big difference between the 1.4 and Upgrade Exam? Do I still have to read the full SCJP 1.5 book or is it o.k..to concentrate on parts of it for the Upgrade Exam? Thanks a lot.
