Hi Ranchers,
Just 2 hours ago, I finished my
SCJP exam and scored 96%. I got 2 questions wrong out of 61. The exam will be easy for someone who prepares well and hard. I must have got 60 questions right, but I changed an answer (and that too at the last one) just before ending the
test and I got that one wrong.
I knew, I knew I shouldn't do that unless I am 100% sure, but to err is human. I must thank all the ranchers, my friends, my boss, my family and whoever was involved in creating the K & B book. I thank Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra and all those who worked hard in preparing that book. Just watch out for the erratas, you will be fine.
For Guys who are preparing now, here are my suggestions:
--> If you are an average guy (or girl) like me, you better go for K&B book. I first read Khalid Mughal's book but I never came to a conclusion that I was ready for the exam. There were so many topics discussed in that book which were not there in the SCJP syllabus (objectives). It's a very good book, but I don't want to be distracted by those supplementary topics which I don't care about when I am going taking the exam.
--> And another reason for you to go for K & B book is that it's very interesting to read, you won't feel boredom especially if you are reading late nights after you got exausted working at the office. Again, many of you may disagree, but Khalid Mughal's book didn't work out for my SCJP preperation. (Although I would highly recommend to read that book also if you have all the time in the world)
--> I took the "Self Test" very seriously after I finished a particular chapter. You may get 30 to 40 % of the wrong, but don't lose your heart. It's a good indication for you to concentrate on the topics you answered incorrectly.
--> Just before 10 days, this is what I did (from K & B book and CD):
* Read all the exam watches
* Read all the certification summary
* Read all the 2 Minute Drills
* Took all the Self Test
--> Just before 3 days:
* Read all the exam watches
* Read all the certification summary
* Read all the 2 Minute Drills
And one more thing, mark the important points while reading (by underlining or highlighting with sketches or whatever). One more reason to buy the book.
Frankly guys, I knew I'll pass the exam and I'll score anywhere between 70 - 80 %, but even I was surprised after scoring 96%. So those of you who are preparing, I am sure if I can get it, you can do it better. Once again thanks to everyone. I am going to start my SCWCD preperation from now. It will be a good challenge cause I don't work on
Servlets and

. I read the intro and all they say I need is a PC with JAVA/Tomcat and my brain...so it should be fun.
