Hi Ranchers,

Just 2 hours ago, I finished my SCJP exam and scored 96%. I got 2 questions wrong out of 61. The exam will be easy for someone who prepares well and hard. I must have got 60 questions right, but I changed an answer (and that too at the last one) just before ending the test and I got that one wrong.

I knew, I knew I shouldn't do that unless I am 100% sure, but to err is human. I must thank all the ranchers, my friends, my boss, my family and whoever was involved in creating the K & B book. I thank Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra and all those who worked hard in preparing that book. Just watch out for the erratas, you will be fine.

For Guys who are preparing now, here are my suggestions:

--> If you are an average guy (or girl) like me, you better go for K&B book. I first read Khalid Mughal's book but I never came to a conclusion that I was ready for the exam. There were so many topics discussed in that book which were not there in the SCJP syllabus (objectives). It's a very good book, but I don't want to be distracted by those supplementary topics which I don't care about when I am going taking the exam.

--> And another reason for you to go for K & B book is that it's very interesting to read, you won't feel boredom especially if you are reading late nights after you got exausted working at the office. Again, many of you may disagree, but Khalid Mughal's book didn't work out for my SCJP preperation. (Although I would highly recommend to read that book also if you have all the time in the world)

--> I took the "Self Test" very seriously after I finished a particular chapter. You may get 30 to 40 % of the wrong, but don't lose your heart. It's a good indication for you to concentrate on the topics you answered incorrectly.

--> Just before 10 days, this is what I did (from K & B book and CD):
* Read all the exam watches
* Read all the certification summary
* Read all the 2 Minute Drills
* Took all the Self Test

--> Just before 3 days:
* Read all the exam watches
* Read all the certification summary
* Read all the 2 Minute Drills

And one more thing, mark the important points while reading (by underlining or highlighting with sketches or whatever). One more reason to buy the book.

Frankly guys, I knew I'll pass the exam and I'll score anywhere between 70 - 80 %, but even I was surprised after scoring 96%. So those of you who are preparing, I am sure if I can get it, you can do it better. Once again thanks to everyone. I am going to start my SCWCD preperation from now. It will be a good challenge cause I don't work on Servlets and JSP. Looking forward for my next race. All the best for whoever is preparing. Thank you all!

Well done Srikanth Raghavan. Congrats! I have read that you are going to prepare for SCWCD, well I have similar ambitions, if you want we can do our preparations simultaneously. Give me your e-mail address.
Let me tell you about myself.I am the new greenhorn of this site. When I gave SCJP I didn't know this site (i.e www.javaranch.com). I didn't discuss anything with others, I studied all alone.I didn't give even a single mock exam. By God's grace I got 88%in SCJP.This time I will not repeat those mistakes. Looking forward to hear from you.

Thanks & Regards
Atul Singh

Like you I am also planning to do SCWCD and dont have much work experience with it either.

Question for both Atul and you, how soon are you planning on giving it? That way we can study together. I havent started preparing yet.

Dear Arnab
Even I don't have any experience in JSP/Servlets. I am new in this field so covering HFSJ will take at least 3 months. Then study of Specs, mock exams will take additional one month. So I feel around December or first week of January I should be able to give the exam, if everything goes right.

Thanks & Regards

Hai Atul,

I am glad to hear that we can have a combined study for our next mission. I will send you an e-mail and we'll discuss things in more detail. Just wanted to let you know.

Hi Arnab, I completely agree with Atul that it will take atleast 3 months to complete it. So, let's get it started.

Here's my e-mail id: sri1025@yahoo.com

Bye

Great, the timeline works for me too. I went to BORDERs yesterday to check out the HFSJ book and it was faaaaattttt . I read the intro and all they say I need is a PC with JAVA/Tomcat and my brain...so it should be fun.

I am ordering my book from amazon tomorrow. I should have the book next week.

I wanna join you guys. Hopefully, I pass SCJP 1.5 first. Otherwise,
all my ambitions will get obliterated.

I already have head first servlets. I also bought the headfirst
EJB Buk.

My estimate for this is 3 months too like SCJP. My email add is cyber_robbi@yahoo.com

Hi All,

When I gave SCJP I didn't know this site (i.e www.javaranch.com).

Its the same with me. I finished my SCJP 1.4 on 27th may with the same score (96%). Although i studied for the exam with one of my friend. Her score was (93%).
From then the were a few other thing on the personal front i was involved in (my bro got married in june) and so on. So my actual preparation for SCWCD has started now or rather will be. Also i had set a timeline of september end as the date of exam. I think this might get extended by a few weeks. May be oct end which gives me 1 and half months of preparation time which seems fair enough. I would also like to join all you people who are planning to go for SCWCD. As like most of you, i too dont work on J2ee. Just plain old java that too not much of it. But find j2ee really fascinating.

Thanks & Regards,
Abhi.
