Hello All,

Today I have cleard SCJP 5.0 with 97%. I'm very much thankful to Kathy and Bert for their wonderful masterpiece and to all the java gurus in this forum, for their prompt replies. I would still continue to roam in this forum, in the search of knowledge and sharing the same with others.

My next target SCWCD is set already and need all the gurus to extend their help.

Thanks once again.

Hi Ravi!
Congratulations.
1.Can you tell me how did you prepare for the exam, to score such a high score?
2. Also how were the Collections/Generics, Thread questions. Were they easy or tough ?
3. Is K&B sufficient for the preparation of the exam?

Please answer my questions.
Once again, HEARTY CONGRATS on passing the exam.
Thanks in advance,
Sridhar Palla

Hi Sridhar,

First of all, I wish you all the best.

Secondly, here are the few points I would suggest(atleast followed for myself)
A) Take enough time for your self in preparing for this. Usually it takes 2-4 months , but people are there who cracked this in a month or even less than that. So based on your prior knowledge in java, take enough time to understand, grasp each and every point from K&B.
B) Yes, K&B is sufficient enough for understanding the concepts, but story does not end there. We also need to solve all the questions from self test.
C) Lots of coding is the key here. Not by just reading, we can really debug a code . I would not recommend any IDE's like eclipse or any other kind. Rather, code it in notepad and before you compile and see the results, analyze the code and write down the expected results aside. This is more like test driven approach, where you have written a code , but would not run it for getting the results, rather you analyze the code and anticipate the results. Compare the expected results and the actuals, this way , we help ourselves to see if the code does actually compile, compile with warnings, compilation fails etc.

D) Should work on several mock tests, there are good sites where we can find good number of mock tests question. Refer the link Mock Exams listed by Maha Anna.

E) Before you take the tests, make sure you go through all the 2 minutes drills, self prepared notes which would be really helpful, small programs where we found the descrepency between the actual and expected results etc.

These things would really help in clearing the test.
