Whew!

Passed the exam with a 4 point margin, close call... But at least I didn't overprepare

I knew I would not get a good score, I hadn't prepared nearly as well as I would have liked. But it's hard to study properly with a 4 months old son who craves attention

Results on the individual sections were rather diverse - I got 100% on "OO concepts", but only 45% on "Flow control" (I don't know what the heck happened there - musta made some really stupid mistakes).

I was particularly ill-prepared on API and collections. I figured, if I'm gonna pass the exam and feel that I'm weak in something, it's gonna be API and collections. When I code I always have the reference docs anyway, so why struggle to cram that? It's gonna be in front of me when I need it.
I think it's more important to know the language well.
So, 60% on collections and 50% on API was well-deserved.

Well, it's done and I'm glad I got this cert. I haven't decided which one to go for next, Developer or one of the "XXX Component" certs.
I'll probably go for SCJD and the j2ee stuff after that.

Oh, one more thing: I used whizlabs and the Sanghera book. whizlabs was great, the book was what was needed - but just barely. I didn't particularly like it, but it was, in the end, enough.

Anyone who is a serious java coder should get Joshua Bloch's books; Effective Java and Java Puzzlers. I have them both, and they probably helped me get through this exam, and they made me a better java programmer. So just get them, they are neither expensive nor thick, about 150 pages each, and a delightful read.
