This isn't a question about errata, but I think it fits here even so, because I have a problem with an exam... from the forum description - "User reports on problems with mock exams everywhere." It's just not the usual problems.

I've taken the Exams on the CD from the Osborne Java Cert Guide and from the web site. Once, (and I'm not sure what I did, maybe ran out of time?) I completed the exam and got to the review page with the red dots next to the questions I had marked, and the exam listed as Correct/Incorrect.

I'd like to be able to get back to that state and be able to examine the questions that I had marked, in light of whether or not the answer I gave was correct.

How should I have proceeded in order to get there? Is that only for the open book exam? I didn't get an option for open or closed on the bonus Master Exam when I started it. Does this mean I can't get there from here?

The only option that did something the last time I went through an exam, was the button to "Exam Results", which goes to a screen with the overall score "passing 797, your score 859, Grade PASS".

These numbers appear to be percentages, that is, 79.7% (or 80%) is passing and the 85.9% matches the "86%" mentioned on the View Exam Results page. But why is 80% passing as opposed to the 31 out of 61 correct (51%) on the actual exam?

I clicked View Answer Guide and it lists 9 questions with the right answers. Unfortunately, it does not list the incorrect answers, nor the answer that I selected. Especially for "fill in the missing code" questions, this is next to useless, unless I can remember the other answers and what I picked. This goes back to my first question about seeing the questions with the correct/incorrect result.

I've noticed all of these things also. Very annoying. The only work-around I've found for the review-page problem is, the one and only time I seem to be able to get to it, copy down all the details I might possibly be interested in, re-typed into a Wordpad file.

I kinda like the 80% passing thing though; it makes me more hopeful for the real thing (knocking on wood for SCJP, Mon 3/28/2005).

Also I noticed that in this Master Exam, we're given a lot less time per question. The cert exam is supposed to be 120 minutes, 61 questions, whereas the MasterExam is 90 minutes for 65 questions, so we gotta work something like 40% faster. Too quick for a hard-slogging slow-wit cow poke like myself, but again, maybe that'll make for a better test day.
