Hi
Test 283 :IBM Certified Specialist - IBM VisualAge for Java, Professional Edition, V4.0
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj283.shtml
Test 487 :IBM Certified Solutions Expert - IBM WebSphere Studio, Professional or Advanced Edition, V4.0
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj487.shtml
and
Test 488: WAS Certification.
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj488.shtml
As IBM introducted websphere-studio lately , and i have heard they have plan to phase out VAJ with this new product ,i think it makes sense to go for Test 487 instead of Test 283 if you are planning on product-certification bundle
But i see that the studio test , test 487 that is , is more oriented toward site-development as the product itself . But VAJ test covers all sort of development. So this makes the choice difficult.
and also i guess VAJ test with 488 will get us to the JCert path too . But Is test 487 also a part of Jcert , n holds same value there?
any opinion plz

hi gagan,
difficult commenting on your question, specially with the arguments by you about those 2 exams. but one thing is important- if VAJ is getting abolished, why go for it.
My opinion.

But Is test 487 also a part of Jcert

No it is not. To certify on websphere (JCert Level 3) you must first have passed a JCert level 2 certification. The current IBM exams for this are 486 (OOAD+UML) and 283 (VisualAge)
The 487 exam gets you IBM Certified Professional, but is not part of JCert level 2 Solution Developer Certification

Much more interesting for a programmer is 488. 487 is for webdesigner-people.
Ibm anounced that in april there will be a certification for websphere application designer (VAJ follower). So I speculate, that this exam will replace the VAJ exam in the JCert. Repeat: I am just guessing, but it sounds quite logical, doesnt it?

Axel,
I also guess so.

What kind of corn soldier are you? And don't say "kernel" - that's only for this tiny ad:
