Hello all I have a question. The JCert3 says it requires solution developer + 2 tests. Does this solution developer means only the current active solution developer certificate? Can the old ones be used as well? For example, for IBM Enterprise developer, Can people use the old VJ solution developer(which is not open anymore) + 2 tests to achieve it? THanks.
I too have a VisualAge Solution Developer that I just received in the last month. I think a Solution Developer is considered a Solution Developer. I know that I had to get it all completed before June 30th which I did. I did not think I needed to rush thru the Enterprise Developer as well??? If it is true that my Solution Developer is expired on the 30th I would say it is really bad on IBM's part. Sun does not invalidate there credentials. I would opt to drop JCert and follow the Sun path instead. It would be more secure. I have a lot of clients that still use VisualAge for Java, so even though IBM does not see honor in it as a credential anymore, I still do. Garth SCJP, IBMSD, IBMVJ
I found out from IBM that some certifications may be retired because the product is updated. However, if you have earned the certification the fact that you got the certification is not undone.

I just heard that the Solutions Developer for VA will not retire now until Dec 31st of 2002. The question still remains. If I get my Enterprise Developer before Dec 31st I will be OK. But if I wait until after Dec 31st to get that certification will it still be honored? That question has still not been answered.
I do not know the answer to that question. I suggest that you email the IBM Certify contact at certify@us.ibm.com and get an official answer. (Then let us know the real answer.) I have a question (or 2): Is there a WSAD cert to replace the VA cert? Why not take that cert and be safe?
I put a letter into ibm.cert. When I get a response I will bring it to this thread. I will be going for the WSAD exam in about 8 months. I like to have close to a year of experience with a IDE before I take a exam on it.
certify@us.ibm.com wrote back and said the following: The Solution Developer certification to which you refer will be valid until 12/31/02. After that date you will not be able to use that certification to satisfy a requirement for a Solution Developer prerequisite. You should plan to complete all requirements for the desired certification before 12/31/02. So there we have it. Garth SCJP, IBMVAJ, IBMSD
