Hi,
I took the exam on 25 Mar 03 and passed with score of 81%. Let me see if I can help with some feedback based on my preparation/taking of the exam. For me, my experience is primarily in Webpshere 4 and Weblogic 5, and I attended the Weblogic 7 EJB course from BEA. My motivation to take the exam is really because my new job will probably require me to use Weblogic 7, and having a goal while learning helps me alot.
1) The sample exam from BEA is too simple
2) The whizlabs mock exam in my opinion is not helpful at all - definitely not worth the money they are charging. They had questions on integration with Weblogic Enterprise Server which did not appear at all in the actual exam. The answers to some questions were not clear and for some questions non-existent (they just gave the correct choice without any explanation). Some questions/choices to questions were phrased quite badly. Some questions (and their answers) were obviously pulled directly from the BEA documentation. My overall impression is that whizlab put this up in a hurry, and their technical support did not get back to me at all when I emailed them on some issues.
3) The Gamma site mock exam, although based on Weblogic 6 is fairly useful although I remember they did not have explanations/answers for the questions (you get a score)
4) The general (non-Weblogic specific) EJBs, JMS, Servlet/JSP, Web Services questions in the actual exam are quite simple if you have worked on them before. Definitely not as difficult as the questions from the IBM Websphere exam (158) and IBM J2EE Connectivity exam (483).
5) The Weblogic specific questions on the J2EE components (EJBs, JMS, JSP etc) are also not difficult in that they are not tricky and if you have worked with them or read the relevant manuals, they are quite straightforward.
6) For me, I scored lowest in the Administration portion of the actual exam as I am not a administrator. Even then, I feel that the answers to the questions are not that difficult if I had adequate experience and studied hard enough. The book BEA WebLogic 7 Server Administration by Ali Akbar, Keyur Shah was helpful in that it contains a good summary although most of the stuff in the book can be found in the BEA documentation.
7) I feel that in terms of preparation, go through the suggested readings from BEA website on the exam topics, Go through the sample application that comes with Weblogic 7 installation, take the BEA sample exam and the Gamma one, and
you should pass.
8) To get a feel of the type of questions you will probably encounter, I remember getting questions on the Weblogic JSP custom tags, Weblogic features for managing EJBs (pool parameters, entity bean caching etc), some stuff on weblogic.xml/weblogic-ejb-jar.xml parameters, Clustering mechanism, access thro JNDI, weblogic.Admin commands, start-up sequence of Weblogic server. I honestly cannot remember much more than this.
good luck!
