Dear Pals,
I passed the IBM Test 158 just a little earlier scoring 64%. I even didn't know the minimum passing score (57%) until I received the score sheet from my test center admin.
Preparation For The Exam
I am a newbie in EJB, still my few experiences with Servlets, JSP and XML helped me to grasp the EJB fundamentals in a short time. I got only one book from IDG, WebSphere App Server Bible to prepare besides the soft copy of Mastering EJB2 in PDF format. I could only go through Mastering EJB2 first and second chapter (twice) and it was simply excellent. I installed WebSphere 4 and 5 trial version, WebSphere Studio and ran sample applications. I went through the SUN tutorial and JavaWorld articles on EJB fundamentals.
Exam Information
This exam is not quite hard nor easy at all. It requires clear understanding of EJB Fundamentals as well as familiarity with WebSphere Application Server, Studio, Testing Environment. I found servlet and jsp questions easier for me as I am an SCWCD. I did not find many design pattern questions. Emphasise on Entity Bean, Session Beans in different scenarios along with packaging and deployment were major issues.
Acknowledgement
JavaRanch and Wahid Sadik, my friend who served me the WebSphere Studio in CD and encouraged to appear the exam without fear.
Next Plan
Looking forward to appear Sun Certified Business Component Developer 1.4 Beta Exam (SCBCD) that I qualified for, just two days earlier.

When did you get the notification? When does this start. I also filled out the questionaire and have not heard from them.
How long did it take you to prepare for IBM 158?

I got an email from SUN informing I'll get the exam details at 19th May.
From last month, I studied the 4 weekly holidays (4*5 hours) plus the last 2 days (2*12 hours), along with today's 2 hours totalling 20+24+2=46 hours approximately.

Good luck!

Faiza,
You are reportedly one the first lucky persons in JR to get the voucher. I have checked right now, but didn't get the mail yet. Did you take the survey or just applied after reading my earlier post SCBCD voucher?

I had filled the survey long time back...i guess it was your post in java ranch. So the first 400 will be able to get tested, and does that mean june 6 is the safest date??

Any ideas of ejb preparation?

Well as a preparation, I'll use the following -
  • EJB Specification 2.0 that I downloaded from Sun in PDF format
  • Monson-Haefel's Enterprise JavaBeans 3rd Edition from O'Reilly
  • Ed Roman's Mastering Java 2 from Weily Publications
  • JBoss Application Server for testing and running sample applications

  • But the problem is that I have still not received the voucher
