Help About Sample Questions for 287???

Im new to this forum!!! Can any one help me with the sample questions, tips, Resources for 287(Websphere V5.0) !!!

I'm using "Developing J2EE Applications with WebSphere Studio" by Kushner. It explains a lot, but it doesn't seem to have any mock exam questions. I too would like to know a little about the format of the exam. Multiple choice? Perhaps a mock Websphere studio front-end where you have to click on the right buttons or something? I have no idea.

Howard's book aims to provide us all info for the test 287, but I think Howard can in fact give us some sample questions about the test.

Just a hint, you MUST understand all things that related to those 50+ questions in the ICE test, not only why the answers are correct, but also why other answers are incorrect.
By doing so, I am sure you can master the test, becos the real test is very similar to the ICE test, but the questions are *revising*. That is, the answer of certain ICE question becos the question, and the question of the ICE becomes the answer.
Thus, you must fully understand all ICE questions, read Howard's book if you feel doubt for certain answers.

YES. There are some questions related to coding (EJBs usually), and some related to deployment descriptors.
Dont worried, they are not that difficult at all.
The most difficult part should be those WSAD related questions, like connection pool, performance tuning, etc.
When will you take the exam? Is this the last test for ICED?

Then im interested in takin certifications of Sun family..... may be my next trial will be in SCBCD..

It may, but not all, as 287 focus on WSAD 5.0 while 158 focus on WSAD 4.0, and thus, the setting of the server elements may differ.

Thus, you should better use Howard's book to prepare this exam.

I do think so, I guess only the sequence of the questions appear is differ.

I have most of the resources for ICED 5.0, including Howard's book for 287, HFEJB and SCWCD Study Kit for 484 and a bunch of UML books for 486...

Which book will you use for IBM 486?

Fowler's UML Distilled 3rd edition, or Larman's Applying UML and Patterns?

In addition, do you have any 288 resources? I will take it after SCDJWS and 1z1-036, I planned to take it on Jun 2.

I'm using the second edition... I think it's out of date already... Better find the third edition in the market...

Personally, I think 2nd edition is much more better than 3rd edition.

It is becos, in 3rd edition, Fowler focus more on comparing UML 1.x with UML 2.0, however, 486 focus on UML 1.x. Thus, the 2nd edition gives more details on the UML context, instead of comparing the difference between the UML versions.

So u recommend the second edition for 486... Then I won't waste my money on buying the third edition... I got the second edition from the university library...

You need the 3rd edition, only if you wanna take OCUP exams.

What is that OCUP? OMG Certified UML Professional? I've heard of the name, but never known in details... I guess IBM's might be more popular than that one...

yup. However, IBM 486 is NOT a certificate, but OCUP is!
Even you put down ICED, some interviewers may not realize that it includes UML.

I am very very bad luck that I missed the beta exam.
I wish they give another promotion soon.

The references given for 287 -- RedBooks -- deals mainly with securiity and System configuration and Mgt..Will more questions come from that part???

There are around 10 questions from those topics, but I havent read the red book, so I cannot give any comment.

As I said, Howard's book is the only resource you need to master the exam. I have only refered to that book without read any others.

I scraped through 287 the other day and I would re-iterate Nick's advice that :

I found it to be a very hard exam, requiring a very deep understanding across a very broad subject area. This makes it difficult to 'cram' for 287 in the way that you can for some other exams. As mentioned by the other contributers, Kuchner's book is the best guide to focus your skills in preparation for the exam together with the ICE mock exam.

I would suggest that when going through Kuchner, you stop after each chapter and ask yourself 'do I REALLY understand this topic?'. If you do then continue, otherwise read the chapter again, research on the web, play with a sample app in WSAD etc until you are on top of the subject.

Some of the WSAD-specific questions are very difficult indeed, so you will need to be scoring high marks on the more generic areas (like EJB and JSP) to make up for that.

Difficult, but rewarding I think....

You must have meant SCJP! I would rename it to Sun Certified Java Coder
However, 287 is not so difficult as it took me 1 month to prepare (without prior WSAD experience).

I would like IBM's certs to be more popular, at least as popular as Sun's and better as popular as MS

Just passed 287 (67% - Phew close one!)

I just read Howards book once and went through each of the 50 ICE questions making sure I understood what the answers were and why. If you do this then you should be able to scrape a pass like me - but a more detailed study of the book would probably be advisable to get a more comfortable pass!

I got through with less than 2 weeks study 2hrs a day.. but I'm always a fast exam-cram junkie !!!

I have to get myself through exams 484 and 486 now! - seems like 484 has enourmous crossover with 287???

Did you take part in IBM's exam promotion? If so, the expiry date of the vouchers is 30 June 2004.

YES. The Servlet, JSP and EJB parts are quite similar for both exams. But 484 contains questions related to J2EE connectivity (JCA, JAXP, etc) as well.

IBM-484 should not be a problem for you since you have passed IBM-287.

IBM-486 is not easy, but I'm almost sure you will enjoy it as we did.
