2. Transition from WebSphere Studio V5.0 to Rational Application Developer V6.0
Additional certification roles for Rational V6.0

For V6.0, the following products have been rebranded/renamed:

IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer => Rational Application Developer
As a result, WebSphere Studio V5.0 certifications are being updated and transited to the Rational Application Developer V6.0 certifications. For Rational V6.0, the following certifications will be available. The former two will be available worldwide in April, the availability date for the latter is not yet available.

IBM Certified Associate Developer - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6
- requiring the completion of one (1) test:
Test 255, Developing with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6

IBM Certified Solution Developer - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6
- requiring the completion of two (2) tests, one of which is the product specific test:
Test 256, Application Development with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6

IBM Certified Enterprise Developer - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6
- requiring the completion of four (4) tests, one of which is the product specific test:
Test 257, Enterprise Application Development with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6

The following two (2) new certifications will also be introduced in April and June respectively, each requiring the successful completion of the product specific test only.

IBM Certified Application Developer - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6
- requiring the completion of one (1) test: Test 256

IBM Certified Advanced Application Developer - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6
- requiring the completion of one (1) test: Test 257

IBM introduces two new certification roles, IBM Certified Application Developer and IBM Certified Advanced Application Developer. I think she want to increase the no. of certification holders significantly. More important is not relied on Sun certification (SCJP) as the case of Weblogic.

Hi there,

With respect to "Test 257, Enterprise Application Development with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6.0 (transition from Test 287, Enterprise Application Development using WebSphere Studio V5.0)"

what implications will this have for people preparing for the IBM-287 test?

For example:
- will 287 still be available after the transition to 257
- after how much time does ICED certification with IBM-287 needs to be upgraded if
it's needed for a company to retain it's quota of ICED certified employees
- will there be an upgrade exam for those that passed 287, or must the IBM-257 be passed integrally
- etc...

Does anyone know?

Cheers,

Gian

Hi,

I got a reply from IBM:
Question: will 287 still be available after the
transition to 257?
Answer: Will eventually be withdrawn, and will
not be available.

Question: will there be an upgrade exam for those
that passed 287, or must the IBM-257 be passed integrally?
Answer: you would need to pass exam 257 there would
not be an upgrade exam.

Nothing to worry about right now for those studying for 287

Cheers,

Gian

I believe if we want to get ICED 6.0, we need to take all 3 exams again, as UML has been upgraded to v2.0, and J2EE has been upgraded to 1.4.

Anyway, if there is a free promotion from IBM, I dont mind study them again.

I have a problem. According to the statement stated above:

Since there are no new tests release about other 3 tests in ICED
(at least in 2005.)
When someone have passed 257, then He immediated got 2 cert. ICAD V6 & ICED V6

If you passed 257, you just got ICAAD.

You will get ICED when you passed all 4 required exams (1 of them is SCJP).

plsz relpy for the below questions..

1) Whether i'll get the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6 certificate or IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0-Test 285?

2) Here after whether there is the certification called IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0 certification...-Test 285?

3) what to do for those who are preparing for IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0 -Test 285?

4) suppose if I get IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0 certification...-Test 285 ....whether I used the same certification for future..or i want to write the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6 ?

It depends on the urgency for the certification. If you are not in hurry, you might get IBM 255 as it is more upto date, but only a small portion of companies might use it.

2) Here after whether there is the certification called IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0 certification...-Test 285?

Yes.

3) what to do for those who are preparing for IBM certified Associate Developer-Websphere Studio V5.0 -Test 285?

Go ahead for the test if you are in the way, it means nothing for preparing IBM 255 if you dont have RAD 6.0 experiences, and the exam is still not released.

Depends on the needs. If your companies/clients go for RAD 6.0, you might then need to upgrade it. Or you want to get ICED 6.0, then you must take RAD 6.0 related exams.

Offically, IBM only provides e-copy, however, you can try requesting one from IBM, but there is no obligation from IBM.

By the way, would you mind not using short form in writing the messages, because it is a bit hard to read.

I know whom want to get ICED must passed all 4 required exams .
My point is that if someone like u already got ICED 5.0,
then if u take 257 and passed , will u immediate get 2 Cert (ICAAD,ICED) ?
because u have already passed other 3 required exams.

Ps .I just passed 486 today. Still 2 more exams need to pass

Basically yes, but who cares?

Once you get ICED 6.0, you implicitly get ICAAD. In addition, as ICAAD is just a certificate for the IDE, it is not that useful.

Anyway, congrats on passing IBM 486, and best luck for getting ICED.
