Hi,

I have been a silent reader of this group and was able to clear test-286 and 287. Thanks to all of you. I got a hard copy of the certificate for Solution Developer, since I was already a SCJP.

Now I am preparing for 484 and 486 to be an ICED. I need some inputs for test 486.

The recommended resources for the exam are the books By Martin Fowler and By Craig Larman. Unfortunately there no IBM redbooks available for this exam as an alternative source for study like 286 and 287.

I do have some UML books available
1.Elements of UML Style by Scott W. Ambler
2.UML Bible by Tom Pender
3.UML 2 for Dummies by Michael Jesse Chonoles and James A. Schardt
4.UML and the Unified Process by Liliana Favre (ed)
5.Fast Track UML 2.0 by Kendall Scott.

I am not sure if any of these books would be of any help for the certification. Has anyone tried any one of the above books and was able to clear the exam, if not then naturally I would go for the recommended books.

Thanks in advance,
Rohit S Degamwar,

I would say, the recommended books (Larman's Applying UML & Patterns, and Fowler's UML Distilled) are the best resources for IBM 486. And the two are the only books you needed.

Hello,

Thanks God (Alhamdolillah), I Passed the IBM-486 Exam last tuesday

It was a tough exam, i burnt all the the time of the exam. It was full of diagrams.

I started my actual preparation first 2 months ago.. The last two 10 days i was just doing mock exams.

Here is my notes for whom wants to prepare for the exam:

- Read Larman Book Once
- Read Fowler Book 2 times
- Use WhizLabs, they very good (dont get desperate if you didnt pass the diagonistic and the first exam , this what happened with me....at the final i got 46/56 )
- Do the Mocks provided by CFW & Bala at http://www.objectsbydesign.com (these are excellent exams, thanks to the great guys)
- Read the study notes http://www.objectsbydesign.com/book..._uml.html#notes

After i finished studying i took the IBM ICE sample test, i cleared it with 82%, but unfortunately i found it provided by "Mikalai Zaikin" in the forums
at http://java.boot.by/magnet-mocker/download/engine.html
http://java.boot.by/magnet-mocker/download/exams.html

I compared his exam with the exam i took, its actually the same except for 2 questions

Oh , i almost forget, guys really you have to get not less than 17 inche monitor, i really read about this in the forum but i didnt give it a great attention.
Its really worthy if u got this size of monitor, the diagrams were sooooo big.

Finally, I want to Thank all the guys here in this forum, your nots, discussion and mocks were very helpfull

Hello Mikalai,

Thanks very much
You made a great job regarding the IBM ICE Test.
I think many ppl will get benefit from this,
What are you planning now for which certificate ?
I think i'll go through SCEA

Thanks again,
Emad

Hi All,

I am planning to appear for IBM 486 exam and have only one month to prepare.
Based on your experience of exam, is it possible to crack it with 1 months preparation, while you are working from 9-8.

Rohit S Degamwar,

Rohit:

Can u pls give me some inputs on the preparation material required for 287. I have Kushner with me. What else is needed? Do you have some good links to articles on using the WSAD tool for achieving different objectives mentioned?

For me, Howard's book was the only material I used for IBM 287, though others recommend IBM Redbook.
