I just passed the Oracle 10g DBA OCP exam. I used the new Sybex book (Stuns / Buterbaugh / Bryla), and highly recommend it. I set up Oracle 10g at home and tried out most of their examples.

I had my required Oracle University training last December (10g DBA Administration workshop 1).

Here's the order I'll probably use for the ones I'll work on for the next few months: A+, Oracle 9i PL/SQL dev OCA, BEA Web Logic dev, SCSA-Security (Solaris 10), Linux+.

Hi John,

Actually I have no certificates. And I am just dreaming to have all the certs you have (Oracle, J2EE, .NET and if possible Weblogic ...).

Can you please tell me how many years have you spent since the first certification you obtained ? have you got all this certificates while attending office ?

I was out on vacation, and just got back & saw your question.

I took my first certification test in April 2003. I've been taking
about one test each month since then. The company I work for pays for
exams, but I buy all the books myself. I've been working in IT
for 20 years.

I will purchase both Sybex books (Oracle Exams 042 and 043), but can you point me some tips on becoming Oracle DBA Certified?

Where are the best sites, simulators, mocks, community groups, etc?

Thanks in advance!

I didn't discover any good supporting sites or simulators. For the 042 exam I relied 100% on the Oracle University training, and for 043 I relied solely on the Sybex book & experiments with my 10g installation.

Why dont you join both 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 training?

Oracle University did a cool job in this aspect.

Anyway, you have passed the exam already.

I didn't take the Admin II Workshop since our company policy won't let me charge another $3000 until the end of this year.

I am not sure in your country, but in Hong Kong, if we take only 1 course, say 1z0-042, we have to pay HKD $12,500. However, if we take both courses, we just need to pay HKD $14,500.

Seems it is not that expensive if we take a combo.
