Vouchers expire on June'30 2005, but is it possible to schedule test appointment for later half of the year or should tests be taken by June'30.

Passed IBM 486 without much preparation. Couldn't able to study Larman, maybe that's why I got only 72% but pass is pass...no regrets.

I spent around 40 hrs of time but real thing is my work exp. on OOAD and UML helped me to clear this test.

And also had a glance on following material,

---Fowler Book
---Ezequiel Cuellar's notes
---And also cfw's/bparanj's/Mikalai's review questions.

But I strongly recommend Larman book for a detailed walk through on case-study.

Thanks for your wishes.

Hi Nick, My next take would be on 287 but time is very limited.
How much time you spent on 287.

I have spent 3 weeks time with 4 hours per day for IBM 287 test.

It is the most difficult test I had ever taken, and thus, you might need to pay more attention on that. Of coruse, you might find it easy.

I used Howard's book, and it was my only reference.

Sun Certified Java Associates

I never heard about this. I know about SCEA. Is it a different one?

Yes. SCJA is an exam that is easier than SCJP. It is purposed to be taken by beginners.

Seems SCJA beta is free to everyone, you can check it out at:

Hi,

Passed 287 with 70%. I prepared it for 2 weeks. Overall the test is bit tougher than expected, some questions are really ambiguous.
I used Howard Kushner book as the only source and its really great book !
Thanks Nick for your pointers

Hi,
Passed 484 with 75%. Could able to finish by June'30 deadline
Like others, I used Head First EJB and SCWCD Kit (Hanumant Deshmukh). Exam is mostly on EJB (around 50%).
Referred online articles on JAAS, JAXP, JCA, JTA, JMS for connectivity services (as per IBM Recommendation). Total preparation time is 1 week.

Good luck for others.

Last but not least, left with SCJP (310-*) to complete ICED.

Well , I made good use of 2 of my 3 free vouchers:
Working up to the last day (today)
Got UML & XML YES!!!
Failed (56% only, required 62%) of 287: Enterprise Application Development with IBM WebSphere Studio, V5.0
(really I had no time to prepare this one ..., just 2 days using WSAD)

Thanks to all ranchers

Javier,
Sorry about that. But thats a good fight till last day. For 287, you need at least 10 days of preparation if you're new to WSAD.
Never mind, wait for 6 more months to grab IBM free vouchers for 2006 quota.

Good luck.

Jafar,

I'm just guessing. As IBM has been giving away free vouchers for few years now. JavaRanch site is one among to check for such a promotion. And also keep an eye on IBM website regulary during Dec'05 & Jan'06 months.

The probability of free voucher promotion in Dec 05 or Jan 06 is great. But IBM may change her policy as the case of new certification tests introduced. Now, there is no free voucher given when the new certification test launched except you are IBMers.

Hi,

Don't be mislead by Subject line of this thread, I'm just continuing this thread with my story

Tamed the Tiger !! cleared SCJP 1.5 to become ICED, it has been a long road. I really had to give SCJP as it's part of four certifications in ICED.

Does anybody know how to get ICED certificate. Thanks.

You need to fax or send your score report for SCJP to IBM, they already have a record of your other tests.

See:http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/certs/ad_registration.shtml

Hi Patrik,

I have faxed my score report on 12/4. I'm not sure about their turn around time but I would like to see if people here can give some information. I'll update you if I get any info.

Thanks.
