Good news is OCP developers will no need to upgrade certification status. But the bad news is there will be no OCP 10g (developer track).

Oracle PL/SQL and Forms Developer Certification Paths

Effective June 1, 2005 Oracle University is making changes to its Application Developer certification tracks. The Oracle9i PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate (OCA) and the Oracle9i Forms Developer Certified Professional (OCP) will be modified to become:

Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate (OCA)
Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional (OCP)
Additionally, the names of some exams will also change (see table below). Exam Number Old Exam Name (New Exam Name)
Exam #1Z0-147 Oracle9i: Program with PL/SQL (Program with PL/SQL)
Exam #1Z0-140 Oracle9i Forms Developer: New Features (Oracle Forms Developer: New Features)
Exam #1Z0-141 Oracle9i Forms Developer: Build Internet Applications (Oracle Forms Developer: Build Internet Applications)

If you are in the process of becoming certified, any of the Oracle9i exams that you have passed in the track will count towards your certification in the new certification track.

For more information, please review the Oracle Developer Frequently Asked Questions. If you have other questions, contact the Oracle Certification Program at [email protected].

I've got to say, of all the certification programs out there Oracle's makes the least sense. Why would they have a 10g path for DBAs but not developers? Five years from now how are they going to differentiate between developers who are certified in this no-version (9i/10g) cert as opposed to 13t (or whatever the future version will be called)?

Like most people, I pursue certs that market me the best. I would have pursued a 10g cert to get a leg up on developers with older certs. But I would never spend time getting certified on an old version or on a cert with no version associated with it at all.

Also, for a developer to get an OCP, you need to learn Forms. Forms sucks and most developers don't use it. I suppose Oracle thinks they are goading people into using it, but all they are really doing is ruining their certification program.

My view is also the same. Oracle shoudn't force people to learn forms.

I will probably do only the OCA track (SQL + PL/SQL exams) and then go for the DBA 10g track.

I will be an "Oracle Certified PL/SQL Developer", don't need to put the 'OCA' in my resume. :-)

But seriously, what should Oracle do for the OCP Developer track? More PL/SQL?

Does anyone know what's the best book to use for the PL/SQL test(1Z0-147)?

It's really a shame we don't have a book covering the PL/SQL exam. At least not from Sybex.

I will study with the official PL/SQL course material. I did the Programming PL/SQL Units (PO9i) course last year.

Regards.
