I am preparing IBM 486 but the 2 recommended books have new version.

UML Distilled: recommended -- 2nd, but current -- 3rd.
Applying UML and Patterns: recommended -- 2nd, but current -- 3rd.

Can Javaranchers tell me which version I should use??

Thanks in advance.

Today I cleared my IBM 486 exam with 76% ... I used 2nd edition of uml distilled and Larman and that is wht recommended by IBM ... dont use 3rd edition it has topics relating to UML 2.0 which is not part of the certification.

You can get more information from the site below

http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/edu486.shtml

No these exams are not free but sometime IBM does provide free voucher.

The cost of IBM-486 is arround 100$ depending on your country... checkout www.prometric.com for pricing information

I studied and passed OOAD with UML using UML Distilled 3rd edition and Larman's 2nd edition.

I bought the 3rd edition of Craig Larman's book after taking the exam (it was just released back then) and it is well worth the read if you want an update on UML 2.0.
