Hi people.
What would are the market's point of view for these tests (IBM Certified Specialist for Rational Object Oriented Analysis and Design)?
Would it be a good investment?
Are there any other forums which are devoted a little more for IBM test?
What about FAQs?
Can anyone please point out some good books for these test?

Thanks in advance,
Mars.

I am studying for these exams right now. Someone once suggested this book to me and I've found it to be a valuable resource....

Applying UML and Patterns : An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and Iterative Development (3rd Edition)

I don't know what the market's view on this exam is, but I'm finding that it is helping me to tighten up my OO design skills.

Regards,

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy.
Have you passed any of them yet? If so, how would you compare the difficulty level to, say for example, the SCJP or the like?

Do you think this book is appropriate for all three exams?
Also, i followed your link to amazon and on the front cover of the book it says Second edition?

You have really helped me with your last post.

Warm regards,
Mars.

I haven't taken any of the tests yet so I can't speak to how difficult they are compared to the SCJP. This book probably won't help with the 635 exam since it is based on Rational Rose.

I have searched this site for related 633... topics and found this.
Is what Nicolas claims true? If so that is a bummer, because i would really like and OOA/D cert .

??

Thanks in advance,
Mars.

Are there any other ways of getting around this problem? Or are there any other OOAD certifications available on the market?

Kind regards,
Mars.

You can consider to take OCUP (OMG Certified UML Professional) certification. Some of the ranchers had passed the fundamental or intermediate level certification tests.

Hi Rimjhim,
I assume you are an IBM partner or something? Because these certificates are only for IBM partners or employees (which i find quite stupid).

Regards.

Hi Marcelo

I had written to ibm's certify cell and they had clarified that the rule that these certs are only for IBM business partners is no longer valid-so anyone can get certified!! And I agree with you, the rule was really stupid!

Thanks Rimjhim, your words have really inspired me now.
Can you please let me know what book you read and what mocks you did? Also which books and mocks are you going to use for the 634 and 635 exams?
Last 2 questions... How long did it take you to prepare for the 633 and what was the difficulty level of the exam compared to something like the SCJP?

Thanks once again,
Mars.

Can you provide any proof ? IBM website has added some red words recently. It said "They are not open to end-users!".

December 2005 I completed 633, 634 and 635. Question weren't that tough but unlike SCJP they dont say number of correct answers, it just says "select all the correct answers".

Can you refer other reference materials for these tests?
I was planning to take up Rational OOAD+UML test 486 earlier.
Later realised it was not a seperate certification on its own.
Was refering to
1.UML Distilled: A Brief Guide to the Standard Object Modeling Language, By Martin Fowler
2.Applying UML and Patterns: An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and the Unified Process, 2nd Edition By Craig Larman

as part of the 486 Test. Would these still help for 633,634?
Can you refer other reference materials for these tests?
I realise 635 is entirely on rational rose.

Thanks in advance!

IBM's exams are open for every one. This site is not updated. One of my friend has recently appeared for the examination.

Hi All,

I've contacted the IBM certification center and they told me to ignore the note that these exams are for IBMers only.

They've confirmed that all rational exams are open for all users.

I am planning to do IBM Certified Specialist for Rational OOAD, i.e. give the 633, 634 and 635 tests.

Can any one please provide pointers to the books, sites or any other resources one can use to study for this certification?

A good book for passing 633, 634 is UML User Guide by 3 amigos. You can easily pass the exam by reading this book only. If you want to go extra mile you can read "Applying UML and Pattens" by Craig Larman. Larman books explains association, interaction diagrams etc. well. Though you don't need to read this book completely. You can select the topic based on the objective of the 633, 634 exams.
For passing 635 you need Rational Rose by Quatrani. But this 635 exam is the simplest one. Generally we don't get any questions on Rose Script.

Hope this will help.

Thanks for your reply Mukesh. Besides the books are you aware of any sites that provide mock exams?
