hi, i am a fresh passout having completed my Btech this june. i have been recruited by accenture india and am currently in bangalore. this mar 30 i appeared and cleared my scjp with 70% . on the basis of this accenture has offered me java technology.
now , accenture is a huge org and i am told by my seniors that freshers doesnt have heavy workload and they have considerable time off their jobs.
i am planning to add a few more certs in my list as i have the time to prepare for them.
could someone list me a godd set of certs that i can pursue over next one year .i heard that OCA/OCP would be really helpful but i read some contradictory threads in this forum.one of my seniors suggested me (SCJP + J2ee certs by sun + OCP9i) .some one else suggeted me (scjp+J2ee + websphere)
please suggest in terms of what is considered to be the best in the market.i am relatively new - so my interest is immaterial as i dont know much things either.i think i would like to play acc to market demands.
i have read a lot of threads on this forum and know for sure there are many exp guys out here.please share your ideas and exp.
As I've doubtless said time and time again... 'ideal' is really in the eye of the beholder. It all depends on what you want to be doing with your career and what your employers (potential and current) or clients think they're worth in the long run.
For instance, I'm hardly going to say that any certification would hurt you in the marketplace. But, something else to bear in mind while you're considering the matter - this all depends on where you're going with your career and what technologies you're going to be using. (As an example - my WebSphere certs are doing me no good at the moment, nor are my DB2 certs, as my current employer doesn't use either technology.)
If you see yourself as potentially concentrating on Oracle's products down the road, then their certification program is certainly something worth looking into. Likewise, if you're going to be a Java generalist, Sun's own program is probably the place to start out.
Just my two cents, of course.

SCJP/SCSNI/SCBCD/SCWCD/SCDJWS/SCMAD/SCEA/MCTS/MCPD... and so many more letters than you can shake a stick at!
Oracle basically has two developer certifications paths: PL-SQL - It a certification language test, like SCJP Forms - Its is a proprietary web based GUI used by Oracle only.
The "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" (OCA) certification requiresd the following exams:
1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL. 1Z0-147 Program with PL/SQL
I used the following books: - Oracle 8i Certified Professional - SQL & PL/SQL Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-001) Jason S. Couchman - ISBN 0-07-219153-8 - Very good book. Covers all the exam subjects
- Oracle Developer PL/SQL Program units exam guide (Exam 1Z0-101) Steve O' Hearn - ISBN 0-07-219336-0 - Very good book as well. Unfortunately it covers only 80% of the exam. Some topics for 1Z0-147 are not covered. You have to search for additional sources.
I personally recommend, Feurstein books. They are the bible for any PL-SQL developer.
At [ UD: removed links to copyrighted material ] you can find some old editions of PL-SQL books. They are still valid for certifications purposes.
Good luck in your exam!! [ August 03, 2007: Message edited by: Ulf Dittmer ]

hi theodore , well i appreciate your point of view but as i mentioned in my post i am simply too new to decide my career track. during my studies i took over at least half a dozen projects in a wide range of fields - so for me to judge my field of interest is little premature right now. that is why i wish to go along the market needs - and i wish to plan my course of action over the next one year and am not looking for a period of 5 years of so.
please advise keeping these things into consideration.
it has been just a year since I have started working in IT field. I have cleared SCJP 1.4 exam and I mainly aspire to take up Java/ J2EE as my career path. I will be giving SCBCD exam within a month. Can anyone please tell me what should I go for next ? So can you please tell me as to what should be an ideal set of certifications ?
