IBM vs Sun Java/J2EE certifications

I am trying to decide between taking IBM Websphere ICED certification or go for Sun's SCBCD followed by Web Services one. I right now cant go for both and want to choose one track.

I see there is a lot of growing demand for Websphere. But i am not sure how the certifications themselves compare in the job market and actual learning from them. I have about 6+ years exp in java/ j2ee and have done SCJP/SCWCD/ SCJD.

Any pointers would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Ranch Hand

Before we get too far, you might want to check out the naming policy here before the Sherriffs or Bartenders bother you about it.

With regards to your question - I think what would drive me would be a matter more of what kinds of firms are you looking at for employment. I've found, personally, that both are equally helpful in the sense of drawing attention to one's skills. However, my 'problem' as it were with the IBM track is the rapidity with which they replace versions of their software and 'expire' certifications, and as a consequence have been preferring the Sun exams.

However, if most of the firms you're looking at are Websphere shops (or you work at one such firm), then you might be as well served by the IBM track of exams.

The IBM certifications are very highly regarded in the IBM community, but outside the IBM community, they don't hold nearly as much weight.

On the other hand, the Sun certification is universally held in high regard.

And this is coming from one of the biggest IBM Cheerleaders around.
