Hi

I know it is odd to ask but has anyone a project management question on a java site but still is there anyone here who has given and passed PMP. If yes can you please tell me if to readPMBOK is necessary. I have read "PMP in Depth" by Paul Sanghara and just too bored in reading PMBOK. So if you have given the exam how did you prepared.
Thanks
Imad

My understanding is that the PMBOK is incredibly boring but there are a few good books geared for the exam that are far more enjoyable to read than the PMBOK.

I heard from my colleagues who took the exam that the organization requires you to take a 36 hours training course before you can take the exam (unlike Oracle that the course requirement only fall onto the certified crediental). Thus, please make sure that you can take the test before putting in any effort.

Hey thanks for your reply. I know I already have required project management education from the courses I took during my MS. I was just wondering if I can skip PMBOK and the book I read "PMP in Depth" and some practice exam questions are enough.

Thanks for your feedback
Imad

Well, your book claims to be a study guide. Usually these kinds of books clarify questions like yours in the first few pages (the pages before Chapter 1) to describe if any other resources are necessary for the exam.

I recommend Head First PMP and the Whizlabs simulator. I am currently preparing for the exam. The PMBOK is incredibly boring, and doesn't even contain all the information necessary to pass the exam.
