Hi,

I am having SCJP and SCWCD certifications. I would like to take up any certiciations related to Object Oriented Analysis and Design and UML.

I know that IBM is providing a test for this. But it is going to be withdrawn in a month. There is no alternative mentioned for that till now in IBM site.

Does anyone know that is there anyother vendor who is offering this kind of certifications that got good value in the market?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Did you find a statement from IBM saying that the 486 exam will be discontinued? There's been a lot of speculation about it here since 486 can contribute to a certification that will be discontinued but I have never seen anything from IBM to specifically say that the 486 exam is being axed.

Can you provide a link to any announcement about the end of the 486 exam?

Since I saw about this information in many forums, I contacted IBM certification team personnally by email. They confirmed me saying this is going to be withdrawn. I asked whether there is any plan for alternative, they said as of now nothing is finalized.

Do you know any other equivalent certification provided by other vendors?

Hello Krish,

Maybe you could try the following IBM exams:
633- Object Oriented Analysis and Design - Part 1
634- Object Oriented Analysis and Design - Part 2

They are part of a major certification, IBM Certified Specialist for Rational Object Oriented Analysis and Design, you can find more info here

Thank a lot for your information Marcelo..
It is very useful.

Do you know anyother company (or institution) providing similar kind of exams?

Is there any reason why IBM has to remove 486 test?

I'm planning to take up that test soon. I'll be glad to know the reason behind and switch to OOAD Part1 and OOAD Part2.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Naren

Can someone, pls let me know what training resources do we need to go for so as to take up these certifications? I'm aware that IBM suggested some Webbased trainings and they are paid. But, I'm looking for some hard copy books or online resources.

Cheers,
Naren

I would think passing the OMG OCUP UML exam and the Sun enterprise architect would be a better bang for the buck.

Besides if you can get enought experience to get hired by IBM as a programming consultant. You can probably get some trainning and the exam for free.
