Hi,
I just read in an article that starting September 2001 the XML exam from IBM will be "completely overhauled" (in XML-Journal, mentioned in some other post in this forum).
Does anybody have any useful information or pointers to resources regarding this? If this is true I'd rather wait a few weeks then take the test.
Thanks
Sanjeev

i just read the article,
I think, in new exam format, they r going to incl technologies like schemas or namespaces more in detail overlapping DTDs.
Well, I am also preparing for XML certification and if their exam changes, i will be putting my effort more on these new recommended tech. like schemas, XSLT etc etc.
Moreover keep an eye on ibm website.

The author of the article Mark Colan is referred by the editor of XML Journal as "IBM's Mark Colan". Since the author is from IBM, I guess it would be a possibility that IBM is considering new format for XML Certification. IBM Website is the place to go for info.
Later,

Last time I checked the IBM website had absolutely no indication of the new format. I am hoping they do update the website before the actual overhaul with info regarding when to expect that change. That will help us decide whether or how long to wait.
I have also sent that site's webmaster a mail. No replies yet. Lets see.
cheers

If you haven't taken the test yet, I suggest you wait for the new version, if it is scheduled to go live in the next month or so. Honestly, I feel the current version of the the test( V1 ) is grossly inadequate in terms of the objectives. It neglects some very important XML concepts and evolving technologies.
Always better to take the latest version if one is available...

well, I tend to disagree since I am still on the other side...
it already covers a lot of stuff to read/do...
and mind you, technology is always evolving....

Hi all,
I got a reply from IBM yesterday stating that the new exam date is not yet finalized. However, the approximate release date seems to be "November or December", according to the letter.
This is so confusing... Wait till November, and the new test date might be March! OR, Take the test now, and the new test is released 60 days later!
Anyways, just wanted to share the info. Good luck.
cheers
Sanjeev

Not to start a fight , but I agree with Ajith. One thing, it takes too high-level approach. It doesn't properly test if you can actually work with XML, just if you can talk about it It's stress on DTD rather then Schema quickly becomes outdated. DOM/SAX issues are checked very superficially. I felt much more satisfied after my SCJP exam - passing it means that you really know something

Hehe. Excuse me for my ignorance. Why would anyone need to be XML certified? And why is it always IBM XML certification? Is IBM the only one providing XML certification?

Stanley,
I don't think that's an ignorant question as I would like to know the answer myself. Since I've been working so much with XML and I like it, I intent to eventually become certified.
Can anyone answer this?
Thanks,
Donna

Why Certification ?
Certification certainly increases your professional visibility. ( It doesnot guarantee a job, however ).
Why XML Certification?
XML is an evolving technology and a lot of people "claim" they know XML while applying for potential jobs. If the claims are supported by accredited certifications, that might give you an edge over other during the selection process. That said, if not for the paper-value of the certification, the process of getting certified itself can be quite rewarding. If you're like me, the incentive( the certificate! ) adds motivation to study and learn the various aspects of the technology.
Why XML Certification from IBM?
IBM has been involved in the evolution of XML ever since its inception. IBM is the only organization who is offering the XML certification that demands some respect from the industry.
Hope that helps!
