This week's book giveaway is in the Agile and Other Processes forum. We're giving away four copies of Real-World Software Development: A Project-Driven Guide to Fundamentals in Java and have Dr. Raoul-Gabriel Urma & Richard Warburton on-line! See this thread for details.
With the new feature, bartenders are no longer bartenders outside of the forum they moderate. I observed that two people can have the same user/display name. Since the bartenders are no longer bartenders outside of their forum, you need to look for their number of posts and member number to identify them. Already there is a registered rancher with the name "Thomas Paul". Try to identify the bartender & ranch hand Thomas Paul in the thread, http://www.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=32&t=001692 Hmmm, here's where the member number and no of posts become useful to identify someone. Well, There is a difference in the displayed name between both the "Thomas Paul"'s. A period(.) after the name of ranchhand Thomas. Hema
I admit that I am pretty skeptical about this whole "shown name" thing. It seems to add a level of complication to the registration that I don't like. Maybe somebody can tinker with it a bit and see what the limitations are. I think it would be best to go back to the old way, but I suspect that that cannot be done.

I couldn't find any way to deactivate the displayed name field. I did change the registration message slightly to say that both the login name and the displayed name must have first name, space, and last name.

What is that? Is that a mongol hoarde? Can we fend them off with this tiny ad?
