Hi Jim,
Here's what ebXML is in a nutshell:
"EbXML provides an infrastructure for electronic business that can be used in its entirety or as individual components. In addition to the SOAP-based ebXML messaging service -- extended to add features for security and reliable messaging -- ebXML also provides a registry and repository, business process models, and a mechanism to enable companies to define trading profiles and automate the process of creating electronic trading agreement between companies. "
For further info refer to http://java.sun.com/features/2001/09/ebxmlrev.html & http://www.ebxml.org
I hope this will help you.
Good luck,
Rakesh.
