1. What is the default value for the attribute - encoding (UTF-8 or UTF-16)in the XML declaration?
2. The datatype DOMString, used in the DOM belongs to UTF-8 or UTF-16?

The Default encoding is UTF-8.

Answer for second question is UTF-16. And I think the first one is also UTF-16, because as per XML recommendation, the encoding used is UTF-16

Yes, for both question 1 and 2, the answer is utf-16
