I guess one third people failed their first attempt, most who passed luckily got around passing score 65%. Only one person got over 80% as far as I know. I have not taken scjp2, so I don't know about it. Does that give you a hint?

I passed SCJP2 a year back; i rasied a very similar question sometime back and one person came up with answer saying that on a scale of 1 to 10 SCJP2->4 IBMXml->7

Craig,
Try to get familiar with XML whenever you get some spare time and try to percieve and appreciate the overall breadth of the technology. It is surely going to help anyone with this knowledge in the future. After sometime when you are pretty comfortable with the stuff, you can dig deeper into the concepts and you can then decide whether you are in a position to take the cert or not. Its absolutely no harm in pursuing this stuff. You also have most of the stuff like tutorials and downloads available for free on the web.
I wish you all the best.
