I know a little about XML and didn't applied it heavily.
I'm now looking into it more deeply and on the same way to look for related certification.

Like all certifications, it really does depend on what you're doing. (For instance, getting certified in WebSphereAD isn't really that useful unless you're going to be using that IDE.)
In the case of XML, I found that studying for the test was a good reinforcement of what I've already learned for my job in using XML. Plus, it's a mark to an employer/client that you know the technology to a certain level. I didn't find it an easy exam like some of the others I've taken, so I found it worthwhile, but YMMV.

I think it is a useful cert, even you are not using it a lot now. XML is and will be more popular in many fields. With a cert, you learn some useful stuff, and you have an edge on XML.
Just my two cents.

I second Theodore's post that it can help reinforce what you know. In the case where you are just learning a technology studying for and earning a certification is a good way to provide some focus to your studies.
