I just found the XML specification annotated by Tim Bray himself. Great resource!!!

Be aware of the time line:
The one you referred to 1998
The W3C one is 10-2000, http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml

Sorry guys, Roseanne is correct.
Actually, I would consider reading the 2000 spec first, and as soon as something is not clear enough, I'd go check the 1998 annotated spec
