(I'm sorry, but I don't know why, scripts for URL don't run right now on my computer..., so you'll have to copy and paste...)
One of the main difference between DOM-Level1 and DOM Level 2 deals with namespaces (like SAX 2), at least for the Core Dom.

By example, interface Document has new methods like createElementNS, createElementNS, getElementsByTagNameNS...
In addition of the Core DOM, DOM level 2 offers some modules like events, views, etc.
