Do I need to learn every single API method preferably or is that too much of over kill.
By every I mean every method signature for the main interfaces..
Node,Element,Document etc

No, you don't need to memorize them all. Obviously it's good if you remember the most important methods from the essential interfaces but memorizing them shouldn't be necessary as long as you practice writing some working DOM code (going through the examples at JavaAlmanac.com, for example).
