Hi All,
This is great site for learning. I just passed my SCJP and now heading for XML. I read FAQ on this certification.
Just curious to know whether difficulty of exam is same/less/more than SCJP?. I mean I got 88% in SCJP and eager to know if I put same efforts can I pass this exam? I am new to XML but had little experience in Java coding. so went through K & B book which is best for preparing exam.

Please let me know your honest opinions and once again big thanks to you all.

Regards,
Joseph

Hi Josephp,
Firs of all, CONGRATS for passing SCJP.

You would have to put a lot of effort for passing this exam then you did for SCJP becos

1. The exam covers a lot of XML related technologies (SAX, DOM< XSL, XSLT, XSL-FO..) and thus takes more time for you to prpepare for the exam. Given the fact that you are new to XML, I woudl say that you definetely would require 3-4 months in order to take the exam !!!
2. Also most of the questions in the exam are scenario based. That woul d mean that you would be represented with a real time problem and asked to choose the most efficient solution .. This actually requires that you should have worked in XML related technologies !!! ..but if you havent ..no sweat It just take a lot of time for you to learn the technologies and THEN BE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT Them for these situations
3. Finally, There is no single book (like kathys book that covered SCJP ) for preparing for these exam . You would have to go through a lot of resources (books, internet links, mock exams) to be well prepared for the exam
Having said all this (which might look intimidating ) it is actually made a lot more easier becos of this FORUM

Many people who have taken this exam have had no or very little experience (including me ) and have manged to clear the exam

You can find the posts of these wonderful people (see the "I cleared, I passed" posts ) ..most of them have given their method of preparation, the books they have reffereed and links and guidelines for taking the exam !!

I am sure that you can clear the exam if you follow all these guidelines given by the peole who have cleared the exam !!!

And believe me, this has been one exam that I woudl never forget ...you learn so much for the exam and at the end of the exam ..you are so RELIEVED (to have cleared it ) to have learnt so MUCH !!

and hey XML is still the most famous TECHNICAL BUZZ WORD around

thats my MOST SINCERE FRANK TRUTHFUL opinion on the exam

Good luck for the exam ..if you have any questions do post them in the forum

Thanks Hari,
Your answer gave me definite overlook of the exam. Yes I am eager to learn XML and get myself updated. It is also some inspiration(though fears sometime!) to know that exam is tough and close to "real life" rather than syntax checking. It makes my study and prepartion worth.
Right now I have Professional Java & XML by Wrox and I will be buy Professional XML soon.I put myself span of 4 months for this exam and hope I can clear within that.

Once again thanks for the reply and this is great forum.

Regards,
Joseph.
