I am also planning to take it in nov. Have a thought of buying whizlab simulators (as they offer limmited time 80% offer, only in india) costs around 500.

But whizlab simulator is for the exam 141, not 142 so having a second thought here.

I am waiting for voucher . Passed the sample exam.
I am using the material mentioned in the "education resources". Most of them are free.
using xml spy for testing. they hv a free version.
we cannot use whizlabs as it is for 141.
very less material fro 142 as it is new.
in particular which material are you looking for ???

Whizlabs offer it's still there(http://www.whizlabs.com). I'd a word with the Whizlabs Manager regarding IBM-142 and according to her, she can't give date/time when they are going to release simulator for 142.
In my opnion, we should refer the links and books which IBM has mention for 142, no other choice we have:-(
Can we use IBM_XML_142@yahoogroups.com for sharing the tuturial/tech stuff related to XML

Still there are more common objectivs bet 141 and 142. so i bought the simulator. I want to improve my self in the core areas of the xml (namespace, xslt, sax..), rather new topics like xquery and jaxb and xforms. So i hope this simulator helps.

Hi all,

I have cleared the XML Certification - test 142 this week.

I used the Essential XML Reference Book, and the IBM pdfs, and the links in the resources page of the certification details link in IBM website. The performance tuning articles links here is very useful.

I used whizlabs simulator, but its the old exam version 141, it was quite good to check on basics, but not of much useful for this new test. the new test is more focused on XSLT than any other.

To practice I used XMLSpy, and examples in the site www.zvon.org
This was really very useful to re-inforce the concepts learned. This site also has tutorials on varous xml topics, and has link to appropriate section of w3c spec, in case of in-depth details.

I would say this is must for anybody taking this exam. Working out xslt and xpath samples is the real-saver in the exam. XMLSpy is free tools that supports interactive xpath queries. quite large size but best tool as it has all xml related things (xpath, etc.,) I referred w3cschools.com also once for xquery materials.

The exam is quite a thriller than easy cake-walk. for tough questions working out from answers will help you most. The architecture questions were quite easy, and the xslt questions are most time taking. I had left with only 4 mins to revise marked questions

Finally I am happy to clear the exam with good percentage.

Wish you all Good luck.

Regards,
Srinivasan N R

Hi Srinivasan,

Congratulations !!! Well done!

I wanted to ask a couple of questions.

1. How much time you gave for this exam?
2. Did you had a good XML background before taking the test?
3. What is your score?

Appreciate your help.

i think 141 had lot of topics like xlink and xpointer which could get some easy marks..

in 142 you have concentrate more on xsl transformation. same type of architecture questions will help. DTD schema and x path also not changed.

you should expect more question on performance tuning and optimization, jaxb, jaxp library. as JAXB is part of architecture section, for some architecture questions you need to know design choices for using jaxb too.

why don't you try a sample assessment test, before taking the original. the sample test will just cost you 10 dollars, and you can take it online, not required to take under prometric centers. that will help you the decide exactly.

Access from home/machines without other countries proxy.

The whizlab page automatically shows the discount of 80 percent if it detects your ip address from india. even to me it show 25% disc when i tried in office, but I got 80% when i tried at home.

If it detects your ip as India, it also shows Whizlabs India in the top of the page, rather than just Whizlabs.
