I cleared the test yesterday with 92%. Honestly I was only hoping to pass but much to my surprise, got a good score. I took about six weeks to prepare for the test, studying on average of about 2 hrs/day. I studied the Blueprints, MZ's notes and RMH book. I have been using WS at work but like every other test out there, experience is useful but cannot replace rigorous preparation for the test.

The test wasn't that hard for me. I did encounter some very vague questions - I cannot give the specifics, but given the vagueness of the question, more than one answer had the potential to be the right one. I made the best guess, but added comments during the review time. I don't know if someone from Sun really reads these comments, but I came out with a good feeling.

Questions were well distributed among the stated objectives. There were about 8 drag and drop type questions and one of them was tricky - arranging about 9 lines of code in the proper sequence to achieve the stated goal. It was pretty interesting, but time consuming. I also noticed that if you marked one of these drag-n-drop quesions for review, when you go back to the question again, your previous answers will be reset! I think that is simplyl dumb!! The time given was more than enough, I finished two rounds of review and still had about 30 minutes left. Just be careful with drag-n-drop questions because some of them may take more time. If necessary, just skip them and come back later.

For those of you who are yet to take the test, focus on the following
  • J2EE(1.4) platform support for various API stack with their specific version numbers
  • Differences between level 0 and level 1 of UDDI APIs.
  • Some real-life WS scenarios.
  • JAXR publish and inquiriy APIs - including method signatures and return types.
  • WS security - differenes between confidentiality, integrity and non-repudiation and given the requirements, choosing the right technology.

  • Good luck to all. This is not a easy test to crack given that the objectives cover such a broad ground. But with the three study resources I used, you'll do well.

    Good luck,
