Folks, i am planning to take up a certification on Web services. But i am confused on what exam to take. Either SCDJWS( from Sun) or IBM Test 807(Web Services Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1). Even though i am working with web services in RAD 7 environment now, i want to take up something that industry values and has some long term benefits. I am also concerned that SCDJWS has not been updated since 2004.
Kindly guide me.

Thanks,
Srikanth

Well Test 807: Web Services Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 only covers JAX-RPC (not JAX-WS 2.0) so you are no further ahead that way. I also suspect the IBM exam is much more focused on "how do I accomplish X with WebSphere" - so testing of the more general web service technologies would suffer. In the IBM exam it would be more important to know that a certain wizard exists and how to operate that wizard rather than understanding the priciples and concepts that that wizard is based on.

So the SCDJWS would be a more general yet Java centric web services exam that applies more or less to all J2EE 1.4 platforms - the IBM test clearly focuses on the WebSphere J2EE 1.4 platform. So if you know you will be working with WebSphere then the IBM test has the edge if you don't mind losing some of the non-Websphere and non-Java specific details. Most of the material in the SCDJWS applies to all J2EE 1.4 applications servers (and also concerns itself with interoperability with non-Java platforms) - however it is still up to you to figure out how to accomplish a particular task through a particular vendor's tool set and IDE.
