Just wondering if someone has done all of the three. I need to know which one should be better choice a SCJD or a SCJEA. Out of these which one requires more labor.
Thanks in Advance,
Raj.

Hi Raj,
I have completed SCJP and SCJD and now preparing for SCEJA. But, sorry buddy, there is no exam which requires less labour. Your objective should not be to just to clear certification, but, to clear your concepts along with the certification. If you are really interested in clearing a exam you will never think of the labour required. Rather you will think of how useful it will be, if you clear that exam.
So, if you think you are more oriented towards coding go for SCJD, and, if you think you are more oriented towards designing go for SCEJA. Both are equally good. Its for you to decide which one to go for.
As far as I am concerned, I choose to do both SCJD and SCEJA. Because my funda is different. I think that by preparing for these certifications you actually clear your fundamentals. So, if your fundamentals are clear you are confident, which is reflected in your code or design or whatever. And if your base is strong you can grow high.
I think this helps and you are able to decide which way to go.
Regards,
Rahul.

thanks rahul for the advice..
but tell me what should a new comer do
i have been in the software industry for 6 months
i did SCJP with 88%
people will advise me to go for coding only
but i like server side development and feel more attracted towards SCEA

I completed scjp2 with 88% score. (I took the scjp2 when the exam did not list the number of correct answers. Did the change to the scjp2 exam made it easier?)
I also had to decide whether to continue with the scjd or arch.
I decided on the scjd because I had experience in developement and some of the topics covered (swing). I thought that rmi was a fundamental skill that might be useful to know for ejb development.
I wish I was working on arch cert now. However, I think that either way is good (scjd/scjea). I do think that scjd is a way to prepare for arch.

Not sure which would require less work, though I agree with another post that the journey should be enjoyable anyway. I'm currently working on SCJD and am having a lot of fun with it (so far, anyway).
Not that I was necessarily motivated by this, but I'm quite certain that I saw a salary survey a year or so ago which compared SCJD vs. SCEA where SCJD came out on top. This was probably before the arch exam was revamped, though, so maybe it would be diffrent today.

The SCJD and the SCJEA are both targeted at different parts of the education market. I think with the scjea you will be able to claim that you have educated yourself on the design aspect of software development. while with the SCJD you can claim that you write code that is acceptable and as per the norms specified.
where do you wanna go??
The choice is individual.
As to efforts both take a huge effort to undertake. I am myself preparing both for the SCJD and the SCJEA during my free time and it is a herculean effort

Hi Kalpesh. Always keep your baseline as "Do what you like to do". Cos, if because of some other parameters you go for something in which you are not so interested, then you will never be able to give your best.
Anyways, if you are interested in server side java then do it. But, you should know that SCEJA is not just server side java. It is designed to judge the design capabilities of a person. That means, given a scenario how would you design the architecture. Its not just coding EJB's or JSP's. Well, but the fact that SCJD does not covers server side java is there. Never mind. You don't have to clear a certification for everything you do.
So, I will again say that, if you think you are oriented towards coding go for SCJD and if you are oriented towards go for SCEJA.
I think this helps you.
Regards,
Rahul.
