You can get that from any good book on server side Java programming or for that matter anywhere you find the architexcture fit.
Anyway, here's the clue - a online banking application.

You can get lot of sample applications available on sun's site.
You can get sample application bundled along with application server. I am working with iPlanet which has lot of sample application.
I would rather suggest to deeply study the CH 10 j2ee blueprint provides by sun. This is real masterpiece of work in all aspect including designing JSP, EJBS and you navigation etc etc.
You can find it on sun's web site. http://java.sun.com/j2ee/download.html#blueprints

Here are some -
Investment brokerage firm.
Airline reservation system( the "famous" SCJD assignment ).
Hotel front-desk management system.
Online store - eCommerce prototype that includes sales, catalogues etc.
Any part(s) of the current project that you may be working on that can be migrated to a web-architecture.
More than what the project is, try to use complementary technologies while arriving at the solution. Weigh your design options, make use of design and architectural patterns. Design for scalability and flexibility( future modifications ). Keep it simple, elegant and componentized.
Don't forget XML!!
Good luck( and share your experiences )
